Settignano

The village of Settignano lies on a hill on the northeastern outskirts of Florence, just a few kilometers from the city center. The author, a long time teacher of art history, offers a discussion of the history and importance of this “borgo”, along with itineraries for visiting it and for enjoying its surroundings.
The volume is divided into four parts: an introduction to the history of Settignano and to the artists and writers associated with it across the centuries; a detailed description of its two piazzas and their monuments; four short itineraries within easy walking distance from the main bus stop; and six longer itineraries branching out from the village center, perfect for half-day or full-day excursions in the counrtyside.

Settignano sorge su una collina nella periferia nord-orientale di Firenze, a pochi chilometri dal centro città. L’autrice, per lungo tempo docente di storia dell’arte, offre un’analisi della storia e dell’importanza di questo borgo, insieme a itinerari per visitarlo e per ammirare i suoi dintorni.
Il volume è suddiviso in quattro parti: un’introduzione alla storia di Settignano e a quella degli artisti e scrittori ad esso legati nel corso dei secoli; una descrizione dettagliata delle sue due piazze e dei loro monumenti; quattro brevi itinerari facilmente raggiungibili a piedi dalla fermata principale dell’autobus; sei percorsi più lunghi che si diramano dal centro del borgo, perfetti per escursioni nella campagna circostante.
