La chiesa di San Michele, situata sulla vetta dell’omonimo
monte nei pressi di Greve in Chianti, ospita un affresco attribuito a Paolo
Schiavo e realizzato nella prima metà del XV secolo. L’opera raffigura la
Madonna in Trono con Gesù Bambino che tiene in mano una rondine, assieme ai
santi Giustino, Giovanni Battista, Michele Arcangelo, Pietro, Benedetto, e Antonio
Abate.
Nel testo sono ripercorse le vicende storiche relative all’antica struttura e all’affresco, entrambi oggetto di un delicato intervento
di restauro.

The Church of San Michele, located atop the mountain of the
same name near Greve in Chianti
(Florence), houses a fresco attributed to Paolo Schiavo and painted in the
first half of the 15th century. The work depicts the Madonna Enthroned with the
Child Jesus holding a swallow in her hand, along with Saints Justin, John the Baptist,
Michael the Archangel, Peter, Benedict, and Anthony the Abbot.
The text recounts the historical events surrounding the ancient structure and
the fresco, both of which went under delicate restoration.
