After the 2005 production of the photographic catalog on the Medici Park at Pratolino (Florence) over the centuries, this new book completes that collection with images of the park today, as seen through the eyes of a number of photographers who have measured their talents with the varying aspects the park still offers today.
In three different sections (Nature, Fantasy and Wonder; The plants of the Park at Pratolino; Notes on the animals of the Medici Park at Pratolino) there are photographic portraints of the Park in all its varied beauty, the fascinating remains of its illustrious past, its architectural and sculptural relics surrounded by vegetation, animal and plant life of great interest. It still retains some of the meditative and bizarre features of the time of its Medici founder Grand Duke Francesco as well as the "romantic" character added by the Bohemian landscape gardener Fritsch, after 1818.
This book is accompanied by a DVD illustrating, this time by means of moving images, all the iconographic resources of a place created to "put on a show", a show of itself to begin with, enhanced by the inventions of Buontalenti and Giambologna, but also an ideal setting for firework displays (of which Buontalienti was particularly fond), or, simply, a wonderful stage set for the changing seasons.
