Nel marzo del 1709 il re Federico IV di Danimarca e Norvegia fece visita a Firenze, e la sua permanenza culminò con una festa spettacolare e un sontuoso rinfresco. L’evento è ricordato, nell’ambito del Festival d’Europa 2015, con un’esposizione allestita a Palazzo Medici Riccardi.
I contenuti della mostra sono approfonditi in questo volume, che ha come filo conduttore il valore socioculturale della tavola intesa come momento conviviale, con le sue regole e le sue varie tipologie, ma anche con i suoi risvolti simbolici, allegorici, religiosi. Un percorso che si snoda tra manoscritti miniati e antichi libri a stampa riccamente illustrati, preziosi manufatti che spaziano dalla produzione etrusca e romana fino a tutto il XVIII secolo, a testimoniare – in parallelo con Expo 2015 – l’importanza dell’alimentazione e della cultura gastronomica.

In march 1790 king Federico IV of Denmark and Norway came to visit Florence; at the end of his stay there was an extraordinary party and a sumptuous reception. This event is celebrated with an exposition held in Palazzo Medici Ricciardi during the Festival of Europe in 2015.
The contents of the exhibition are examined in depth by this volume, which has the sociocultural value of cooking, with its rules and its typologies, as its main theme, without neglecting the many symbolic, allegorical and religious implications. A path that winds through illuminated manuscripts and ancient books, exquisite artifacts ranging from Etruscan and Roman production until the VIII century, to demonstrate - in parallel to Expo 2015 - the importance of nutrition and food culture.
