Special issue of the journal dedicated to the Risorgimento and in particular to the collector Frederick Stibbert, who, in 1866, at the outbreak of the Third War of Independence, volunteered for service in the Garibaldian Guides despite his British nationality. In addition to reproducing the collection of Risorgimento arms held in the Stibbert Museum in Florence, the volume gives the first full edition of Frederick’s correspondence from the front with his mother. Absent a diary, the letters from 1866, focused on the “Trentino Campaign,” constitute one of the few surviving manuscript accounts by the English collector.
